Biography

Mariyana holds a Grade 9 Level in RCM Piano. Her Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Early Childhood Education and minoring in Music Education is evidence of her commitment to teaching. She has had 12 years of professional musical schooling, 12 years of playing experience, and five years of musical teaching experience, although she has spent much longer working in the school education system. She has been a choir accompanist, a church pianist, a choir member and a group-music teacher. Mariyana has also participated in the recordings of two Children’s Music CDs and one Christian Hymnals CD. Although strongest in the Classical genre, Mariyana can adapt to each student’s individual needs and goals. She believes that effective teaching includes showing her students how to play, not only explaining how to play, so she keeps her skills sharp. She enjoys teaching Beginner to Intermediate students ages 5 and over. Her many years of working with children of different ages and backgrounds has taught her how to communicate knowledge and skills in a pleasant and effective manner. As a young child, her father exposed her to music and motivated her to study music herself. Her culture and her upbringing played a major role in developing her own passion for music and it is her desire to share that passion of music with her students.
