He is currently in his fourth year of his music performance degree at the University of Calgary under the direction of Rod Squance. He has also studied with local percussionists, Rob Maciak and Malcolm Lim, as well as Marc Mödig of the Berlin Opera and Canadian soloist, Beverley Johnston. Alongside his percussion studies, he is also an active educator within the Calgary Board of Education, the Calgary Catholic School District, and private schools. He has in total 16 years of musical studies, 10 years of performance experience and 5 years of teaching in both private and group settings.

Chris is active as a percussionist in orchestra, wind band, and chamber settings. He has performed with many local ensembles including the Red Deer Symphony, Alberta Winds, and Cowtown Opera Company, and has performed not only in Calgary’s major concert halls, but also at the Banff Centre for the Arts and overseas including the Royal Hall in Harrogate and York Minster Cathedral in York, England. He has held positions of principal percussionist for the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, timpanist for the University of Calgary Orchestra and drummer for the University of Calgary Klezmer Band. He is currently the principal percussionist for the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, University of Calgary Orchestra, and the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra for their 2016-17 season.

His performance experience includes Classical, Jazz, Funk, Latin, Rock, and World Music Styles and implements a classical and rudimentary approach to teaching in order to develop necessary fundamentals. Alongside teaching drumset, he is also available for lessons in Snare Drum and other Percussion instruments. While he has competently taught students of all ages, he prefers teaching students 10 years of age or older and highly encourages studying piano/theory before picking up your first pair of drumsticks.
